Full Description:

GAC Training & Service Solutions has launched new flexible on line courses, open to both group and individual bookings, hosted by the Chevron Shipping Centre of Learning & Development in Glasgow, Scotland.

The Ballast Water Management course is an Instructor-led course that is delivered remotely via video conference over 8 hours.  It covers the background and history that led to the need for there to be ballast water regulation and examines the detail of the Ballast Water Management Convention.  The Convention regulations are studied in depth and the discharge standards for vessels are explained (both D1 and D2 standards).  US Coastguard regulations are introduced and the differences between the USCG and the Convention rules are highlighted.  Some other countries’ rules are briefly mentioned.  Several tools that allow ships’ crews to find out which rules apply to them in their geographical locations (Ocean Guardian and Regs4Ships) are considered.  Some generic Ballast Water Management systems and their methods of operation are discussed; potential problems and dangers are highlighted.

The course is designed for those Officers who are responsible for and/or are conducting ballast water operations or for those involved with the equipment operation and maintenance of ballast water management systems installed on board.
