Advanced Fire fighting course (4 day) STCW-95 NMCI TS
The International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (or STCW), 1995 sets qualification standards for masters, officers and watch personnal on seagoing merchant ships.
The STCW 95 course and modules form part of the statutory requirements for both deck and engineering qualification. It is a globally recognised qualification for working afloat on fishing vessels over 24m and on merchant vessels of over 500GT.

Short Description:
4-day course during which students are exposed to live fire scenarios in the Fire Training Unit (FTU) where they apply their training and use fire fighting equipment to control the fire. A practical damage control element is also included.
Full Description:
Personnel on board a ship must be able to deal with incidents of fire while a ship is at sea. All mariners are trained in advanced fire fighting and fire prevention techniques. Students at NMCI are exposed to live fire scenarios in the Fire Training Unit (FTU) where they apply their training and use fire fighting equipment to control the fire. A practical damage control element is also included.
The fire fighting course includes:
•The theory of Fire
•Cause of fire on ships
•Basic Fire Prevention
•Breathing Apparatus
•Rescue Techniques
Participants on this course will understand:
•Theory of combustion
•Hydrocarbon Fires
•Fire Hazards and Risks
•Fire Prevention
•Protective Clothing
•Fire Hose and Fittings
•Fire Extinguishers
•Suppression Systems
•Breathing Apparatus
•Search Procedures
•Confined Space Entry
•Ship Fire Fighting
•Command and Control
•Fire Investigation
•Practical session including live fire fighting scenarios and Damage Control.
Items to bring:
When joining the course please bring the following items with you:
National photographic identification e.g. Passport or Driver's Licence, wash gear, towel, t-shirt, soft shoes, €1coin for safety locker, extra set of clothes, and a copy of your STCW-95 3 day Fire Fighting & Fire Prevention Certificate. This must be emailed to services@nmci.ie in advance of your course.
PLEASE NOTE: Students must be in possession of a valid Medical Certificate / ENG 11. All students will be asked to fill out a medical questionnaire before the course commences.
N.B.-On the commencement day of the course, please be in the Reception area of the NMCI by 8.30am.
Please note, joining instructions are sent to all delegates in advance of training. If your company has made a booking on your behalf, joining instructions will be sent directly to the booker. These should be forwarded to you. If you do not receive your joining instructions at least 2 days in advance of the course, please contact our admin team.
